You Can Touch Him

The Bible presents God as infinitely greater than anything we can imagine. He spoke the stars into existence and calls them by name. He measures oceans in the hollow of His hand. He rules over kings, kingdoms, and generations. There is no problem beyond His power and no circumstance outside His control.

When David considered the greatness of God, he asked a question that still echoes through the centuries: "What is man, that thou art mindful of him?"

It is a remarkable thought. The Creator of the universe knows us. The God who sits above all creation sees every burden, every struggle, and every need.

Yet scripture reveals something even more astonishing. When God descended upon Mount Sinai in the days of Moses, His presence was so holy that boundaries had to be established around the mountain. The people were warned not to cross the line. They were instructed not to touch the mountain. If man or beast touched where God's glory had descended, the result would be death.

Such was the separation between a holy God and sinful humanity. The mountain could not be touched; the presence of God was real, but access was limited.

Yet even then, God's ultimate purpose was not distance. His plan was restoration.

Generation after generation passed until Jesus Christ stepped into human history. He came as the mediator between God and man. Through His life, death, and resurrection, what had been lost in Eden would be restored. The veil that separated humanity from God's presence would be torn. Access would once again be possible.

That truth comes into sharp focus in the story of a woman who had suffered with an issue of blood for twelve years. She had exhausted every option; every physician had failed her, every resource had been spent, and yet her condition had not improved.

Then she heard Jesus was coming.

Faith rose in her heart. She became convinced that if she could just touch the hem of His garment, everything could change.

What a contrast to Sinai.

At Sinai, if someone touched where God's glory rested, they would die.

But when this woman touched Jesus, she didn't die. She was healed. She was made whole.

The same God whose presence once caused men to stand back had wrapped Himself in flesh and stepped into reach of broken humanity.

The One who was untouchable had made Himself accessible.

That is the beauty of the Gospel. The God who created the stars invites us to come near. The God whose glory fills heaven and earth is still touched by faith. He is still moved by desperate hearts that reach for Him.

Whatever burden you carry today, whatever need weighs upon your life, the invitation remains the same. Press past the fear. Press past the doubt. Press past the obstacles.

Reach for Him.

Because the God who once descended on a mountain has made Himself known through Jesus Christ—and you can touch Him.
