Step Out of the Shadows: The Power of Going Public

There is a tension many believers feel but rarely admit—we want victory, but we often hope someone else will fight the battle. We pray for breakthrough, but hesitate when God calls us to step forward. Yet Scripture shows us a powerful truth: victory is not found in hiding—it’s found in stepping out.

In the book of Judges, two tribes—Zebulun and Naphtali—did something different. While others stayed back, they “jeopardized their lives unto the death in the high places of the field.” They didn’t just agree that freedom was a good idea—they engaged in the fight. They went public.

That’s the challenge for us today.

Too often, we try to live our faith quietly, safely, and comfortably. We want God to move, but we stay in the shadows—holding back our worship, our commitment, and sometimes even our identity in Christ. But the message is clear: if you want heaven to get involved, you have to step into the open.

When those tribes stepped forward, something supernatural happened. The Bible describes how “the stars fought from heaven” and the river swept away their enemies. In other words, when they took a stand publicly, heaven and earth aligned to fight on their behalf.

And that principle still holds true.

Going public doesn’t necessarily mean standing on a stage or making a big announcement. It’s a posture of the heart. It’s the moment you stop holding back. It’s when you say, “This is who I am. I belong to God. I’m all in.” It might look like lifting your hands in worship, speaking up in faith, or simply refusing to hide your walk with God any longer.

There’s a powerful New Testament picture of this in Nicodemus. At first, he came to Jesus by night—hidden, unsure, cautious. But something changed. When he saw Christ lifted up on Calvary—fully exposed, fully committed—Nicodemus stepped out of the shadows. He went public.

And that’s the turning point.

Calvary itself is the ultimate example. Jesus didn’t love us in secret—He went public. He was lifted up, exposed before the world, giving everything. If He was willing to go public for us, how can we stay hidden from Him?

On the other side of going public is a level of victory you’ve never experienced.

Cycles can break. Strongholds can fall. What once worked against you can suddenly turn in your favor.

But it starts with one decision.

Step out.

Stop hiding.

Go public.

Because when you do, heaven starts fighting for you.
